Direct Cremation Explained

Direct Cremation

As your trusted local funeral director, we feel it's important that families are fully aware of what an unattended direct cremation entails. A standalone direct cremation, as you might see advertised on television or in press, involves no service for family and friends. It is simply the collection of your loved one, followed by their cremation, and the return of their ashes. In some situations this option can be a positive choice, saving unnecessary cost and allowing mourners to arrange their own tribute. But for some, it does deny an opportunity to say a final goodbye, which often gives closure.

At Cliff Bradley & Sons we recognise the importance of offering a direct cremation to families in our community, providing our services with the utmost of care, respect and dignity. By using local, dedicated and compassionate people, you can be assured of a direct cremation that meets the same level of professional standards and attention to detail as our traditional service, and incomparable to those provided by the nationwide retailers.

As part of our standard direct cremation service, a highly trained and compassionate team will attend in your time of need. Your loved one and family will receive the same compassionate care as provided for a traditional funeral, maintained throughout the process. A traditional hearse will be included for the final journey, with a funeral director paging in front of the procession. Local facilities at Lea Fields will be used for the cremation, with ashes available for collection promptly after the funeral. These are all features that set us apart from other providers, our family caring for yours, in our own special way. Furthermore, a direct cremation with some firms can lead to additional fees, which ultimately increases the cost for family at the time of need.

As an alternative option we offer a Farewell Cremation, essentially an attended direct cremation, allowing up to six mourners to attend the crematorium for a ten minute period for reflection, at a similar cost. Providing all of the options for an informed decision, we are local people dedicated to professional care, helping families to navigate through difficult choices with compassion and sensitivity. We are with you, every step of the way.
